birthday girl!

Emily turned 6 on September 6th! I've always referred to the year you turn the age of your birthdate (for example, the year I turned 24 on the 24th of November was my special year) as your golden birthday. Unfortunately for Emily, this year her birthday arrived during a stressful time in our family and I didn't really plan an exciting golden birthday for her. Boo to me! But since she was only turning 6, I think she didn't really expect a huge shindig to make her happy.

About 2 days before her birthday it hit me that I should do something for our little girl's big day. Especially given that we let the kids have birthday parties with friends invited over on even years. So I quickly called a few friends and invited their kids to a party in the park. I skipped making a fancy cake and whipped out cupcakes, cut up fresh fruit and brought along a bunch of snacks for the after school party playdate.

Plenty of kids came, they played, they ate, gifts were opened, Emily was thrilled with her gifts. Another successful birthday checked off the list! Forgot the good camera, so enjoy my so-so phone pics.
