house building: board and batten exterior wainscoting

We really love the look of board and batten and decided to put a wainscoting of it on our home's exterior. Other than two front sections of our home, we used it around the entire home.

Had we known before starting what we know now, I think we might have gone with something not quite so labor intensive. There was a lot more work involved than putting up regular horizontal siding. And after the board and batten went up, I was assigned the caulking job which seemed to go on and on and on. Caulking board and batten uses about 10 times more caulk and time then regular siding because I have to caulk around, above and below all those strips.

Some days when the kids were at school, I caulked for 6 or 7 seven hours. And here we are a month later still working on siding and caulking - but at least this wainscoting is pretty much finished. (Of course, we had to work on wiring and other things inside the house periodically to keep things moving along so siding was put on hold frequently but we are hoping to be finished this week).

I'm sure it'll look great after all your hard work. How is it now? I'm so excited to see the results! We've been doing house repairs too since we want a fresh start for the New Year. We did some renovations on our windows and painted our doors to have a fresher look.
